Look Ma, He Has Eyelids!

I couldn’t have been more pleased about the announced changes in late night TV personnel. If you’ve ever made the mistake of leaving your TV on after Letterman, you’ll know what I’m talking about. I’ll be drowsily fumbling for the remote after the Worldwide Pants tagline at the end of “The Late Show” and taking a bit too long about it when That Head suddenly fills my 27″ screen. Tom Snyder is The Head’s name, and it only takes 30 seconds of “The Late, Late Show” to lead you to wonder how The Head got a slot on any network — even if it is CBS. If you’re not familiar with the show, imagine having a multi-course dinner with your least favorite uncle and no one else. The uncle who never, ever, blinks. Ever. Thankfully, though, The Head is retiring or dying or something, which paves the way for moderately talented Craig Kilborn of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” to push this mangy dog of a show into the range of watchability. I wouldn’t put any money on his success, but I’ve seen Kilborn blink, anyway, which is enough for me.
